Here’s What We Know So Far About The 2028 Olympics In LA
The Paris 2024 Games are over, and now people are already looking forward to the Summer 2028 Olympics. Yes, people are planning this far ahead! The Los Angeles Summer Olympics will take place from July 14 to July 30, 2028, and the Paralympics are set for August 22 to September 3, 2028. If you’re already thinking about going, there are some things you should know about the event.
Forbes reported that Los Angeles originally tried to host the 2024 Games. It eventually came down to just LA and Paris as the final contenders. Because of this, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to award the 2024 Games to Paris and the 2028 Games to LA at the same time. LA’s bid was officially approved on September 13, 2017.
Los Angeles will be the third city to host the Olympics three times, joining London (1908, 1948, and 2012) and Paris (1900, 1924, and 2024). The LA28 Olympics will be the fifth Summer Games and the ninth overall Olympics held in the United States. It will also be the first time the Summer Olympics are in the U.S. since Atlanta in 1996.
Only a few of the venues that will host Olympic events in LA have been announced so far. The Opening Ceremony will be held at SoFi Stadium and possibly partly at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, too. The L.A. Memorial Coliseum will host track and field events, while SoFi Stadium will host swimming, with a temporary pool being built for the occasion.
How To Buy Tickets To 2028 Olympics
Right now, most of the ticket information is focused on the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy, happening in February 2026.
We don’t know much about LA28 tickets yet, but for Paris, fans could register for a ticket lottery about 18 months before the Games started.
The Milano Cortina 2026 ticket lottery registration is open now, with ticket sales starting in February 12 months before the Games. So, LA28 tickets will probably go on sale in mid-2027, with registration opening about six months before that.
In February, sports and live entertainment ticketing companies AXS and CTS EVENTIM were chosen to be the official ticket providers for the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Their websites (axs.com and eventim.com) will handle global ticket sales, which will also be available on LA28’s own website.
As for the 2026 Winter Games in Italy, they’re still in the pre-sale registration phase, and general ticket sales won’t start until February 2025. No specific information about LA28 ticket prices has been released yet.
