The subject of when to put up Christmas decorations is a polarizing one, but now there’s science on the side of those who can’t wait to deck the halls!
Psychoanalyst Steve McKeown tells Unilad, “In a world full of stress and anxiety, people like to associate with things that make them happy, and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of the childhood.” He also says that people associate decorations with childhood excitement. “Putting up those Christmas decorations early extends the excitement!”
The science doesn’t stop there. The Journal of Environmental Psychology says that early decorating is a signal of warmness and welcoming neighbors.
So, give the early decorators in your life a break: maybe they’re onto something!
