Kelly Clarkson: Celebs Were ‘Really Mean To Us’ During American Idol
It’s hard to imagine anyone being mean to Kelly Clarkson, but the original American Idol says she experienced her fair share of bullying in the early days of stardom.
“People were really mean to us because we’re from a talent show,” Clarkson said of one of her early red carpet events as an Idol finalist. “Everyone was so rude to us.”
The revelation came while Kelly was interviewing actress Jennifer Love Hewitt on her award-winning talk show. “You probably don’t remember this but it stuck with me so long, like for almost 20 years now,” Kelly tells Jennifer. “It was a horrible experience and you came up to me and ran up to me out of nowhere and were like ‘Oh my gosh, I’m really rooting for you.'”
Clarkson went on to say that she never forgot Hewitt’s encouragement. “You just gave me this advice that was really, really kind in such an unkind time for me personally…it meant the world to me,” Clarkson said. “I’ve been looking forward to interviewing you.”
