Woman Uses Dead Bugs as a Nail Design
If anything is for certain, it’s that these past few years have been huge for nail designs.
From holographic art to fidget spinners, we have seen every trend on the tip of a person’s nail. Thanks to Nic Casati, a nail artist from Australia, we now have a new look to try.
Nic works at Deadly Beauty and Nails studio in Melbourne and realized she can place dead bugs in fake nails. Yes, that’s right, you can go about your daily life with creepy crawlers. According to Vivala, she was “inspired to use critters in her nail art after one of her children found a dead butterfly.” Her original design had a green, silver, and black color motif with a butterfly wing plastered in the nail of her ring finger.
The idea for this design came from her love of taxidermy. She told the Daily Mail that she has always found “beauty in death”. After offering the technique to clients, she began to use different types of bugs in her customer’s nails.
Currently, she has used snakeskin, bees, scorpions, ladybugs, marijuana, a praying mantis wing and a series of other interesting creatures all of which are features on her Instagram page.
For those wondering how she gets her bugs, Casati does not harm any creatures in this process. All of the bugs she uses are either brought in by her clients or bought by a license taxidermist.
Once a client brings her a new specimen, she then plasters the creature under several layers of acrylic. In some ways, the bugs look as though they are fossilized forever on a person’s finger.
The nail artist wants to continue her bug creations. Casati told the Daily Mail that the main reason why is because she wants “to create things that challenge people’s perception of beauty.”
