Meghan Markle went live and talked about the racism she went through and a bunch of people decided to tweet that it isn't valid bc she's lightskin....

Twitter is melting y'all's brains. Colourism can exist and a lightskin person can experience racism. Both are true.
"Meghan Markle is rich + famous so she should stop 'whining' about racism and suicidal ideation" is a horrible take. No amount of money or power can protect a person from these things. SHE SAID SHE WANTED TO DIE. If your reaction to this is to mock her, something is deeply wrong.

Meghan Markle’s interview hasn’t just exposed the truth about the monarchy, a shadowy institution shrouded in secrecy despite supposedly embodying the nation.

It’s currently exposing everyone who doesn’t care about either racism or suicide.
“Don’t shame Melania for posing nude” shout the people shaming Meghan Markle for being Black.

Attacking Meghan Markle on International Women's Day for speaking out about the institutionalized mistreatment and racism that almost drove her to end her life isn't a cute look, British Twitter. pic.twitter.com/T0DXJMkByz

Serena Williams also went to social media to talk about the interview and support her friend, via a note on Instagram.
In it, she said, “Meghan Markle, my selfless friend, lives her life — and leads by example —with empathy and compassion. She teaches me every day what it means to be truly noble. Her words illustrate the pain and cruelty she’s experienced.”
Serena then spoke about issues she’s had with racism and the media. She said, “I know first hand the sexism and racism institutions and media use to vilify women and people of color to minimize us, to break us down and demonize us. We must recognize our obligation to decry malicious, unfounded gossip and tabloid journalism. The mental health consequences of systemic oppression and victimization are devastating, isolating and all too often lethal.”
Serena later talked about her hope for her daughter and Meghan’s in the future.
