Rita Wilson Will Be Featured On The New ‘Hip Hop Hooray’ Remix
Rita Wilson is about to jump on the remix to Naughty By Nature’s “Hip Hop Hooray.” Yes, the popular ’90s rap song. Here’s why:
When Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks were in self-quarantine after they got coronavirus, Rita got bored and posted a video of her rapping to the famous tune. She titled the post, “Quarantine Stir Crazy. See it to believe it,” and it was so popular that it received almost 2 million views.
Naughty By Nature got wind of the post, and praised the actress for covering it. They wrote, “Super shout to @ritawilson for spittin’ those Classic Naughty bars during her Quarantine!! Wishing her and hubby @tomahanks a Speedy recovery!!! She has skills!!” Now Rita and Naughty By Nature are remixing the song to raise money for the Music Care COVID-19 Relief Fund.
In a recent post, Rita explains why she knows the song so well. She says, “‘Hip-Hop Hooray’ is like modern-day Shakespeare. I originally learned the song for one of the most fun roles I ever played in the film Boy Genius. It took me a month to learn because it’s so complex and nuanced; it was like training for a marathon. The rhythms and tempos are so unique and creative.”
She also adds, “When I was quarantined and recovering from COVID-19 I wanted to see if I still remembered it, kind of like a brain exercise. To my surprise I did. I thought it would be fun to put it on my Instagram to show people I was doing okay and to make them smile. When @naughtybynature4ever commented about it, I couldn’t believe it. What a joy to be doing this remix with legends of the Hip-Hop world. I’m forever grateful for their generosity of spirit and for being able to raise money together.”
The official “Hip Hop Hooray” Remix will be on streaming platforms beginning Friday (April 10). Listen to it below.
