Will Georgia Be One Of The States That Is Able To See The Ring Of Fire Eclipse?
This weekend, on October 14, North America will experience an Annular Solar Eclipse for the year 2023.
What is an Annular Solar Eclipse – Ring of Fire Eclipse?
An annular solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, but the moon is at its furthest point from the Earth. With that, it seems like the moon is much smaller than the sun and therefore it does not completely cover the sun.
That is where the term “ring of fire” eclipse comes in. Because the moon will appear as a smaller dark object over the bright sun, creating what looks like a ring around the moon.
According to NASA, the solar eclipse will be visible across the Western Hemisphere on Saturday. They project the eclipse will be visible across North America, Central America, and South America, including parts of the U.S. and Mexico.
Depending on where you are located, the eclipse will last between one to five minutes.
Before and after the peak eclipse, there will be a partial eclipse going on.
What is a Partial Eclipse? What will Georgia See?
A partial eclipse happens when the moon passes between the Sun and Earth, but all three are not perfectly lined up. So the full ring of fire instead shows a crescent shape.
Again, visibility depends on location. In some states, you will only see a partial eclipse and never an annular eclipse, because of the moon’s inner shadow.
In Georgia, we will only see a partial solar eclipse.
How You Can View the Eclipse?
If you want to view the eclipse you will need to wear a pair of special solar-safe glasses. These glasses are not regular sunglasses, and regular sunglasses can’t be used in place of Solar Safe glasses.
Be on the lookout for this eclipse, this will be the last time you see it for a while!
