Halle Bailey Shares ‘Severe’ Postpartum Depression Battle
Halle Bailey quietly welcomed her son Halo with her boyfriend DDG last year and she is now discussing her battle with postpartum depression.
“I have severe, severe postpartum [depression], and I don’t know if any new moms can relate, but it’s to the point where it’s really bad, and it’s hard for me to be separated from my baby for more than 30 minutes at a time before I start to kind of freak out,” The Little Mermaid star shared with People.
Bailey described her postpartum depression as “swimming in this ocean that’s like the biggest waves you’ve ever felt, and you’re trying not to drown. And you’re trying to come up for air.”
The “Angel” singer has been criticized and judged online during her pregnancy and now with the announcement of her son Halo, some fans are pressing her for more information like showing his face online. The star admitted that social media is “not a good thing to be on when you have postpartum.”
She also shared how it is not only a mental struggle but a physical one as she pointed out that she is trying to “feel normal” in her own body.”
The star does have a good support system and says that DDG is the “most amazing daddy in the world” and has helped her battle postpartum depression.
Halle Bailey Speaks On Not Announcing Pregnancy Online Prior To Sharing ‘Severe’ Postpartum Depression Battle
Fans speculated that Bailey was pregnant last year due to some photos being leaked online, but there was never any confirmation until Bailey and DDG announced in January that they quietly welcomed their son last year. During the Essence Black Woman in Hollywood Awards last month, Bailey was one of the honorees. In her speech, she spoke about why she chose to keep her pregnancy private and didn’t want the outside world to comment on a special time in her life.
“There was no way in hell I was going to share the biggest joy of my world with anyone. Halo was my gift. He is the greatest blessing, and I had no obligation to expose him, me, or my family to that,” she shared.
“With the state of the world and the place it is in with men trying to force their will on our bodies, no one on social media, and for damn sure, no one on the planet, was going to tell me what to do with my body or what to share with the world,” she said.
