The Earth Pantry Hosts 1st Annual Earth Day Clean-Up And Festival This Weekend
The Earth Pantry of Downtown Augusta will be hosting its 1st annual Earth Day Clean-Up and Festival this Saturday, April 20.
The Earth Pantry is a low-waste refill store that allows you to bring your own containers, so you pay by the ounce for whatever product you get. By doing this you can avoid food waste and packaging waste. The Earth Pantry is filled with everything healthy, local, and organic. They also have body products, cleaning supplies, and dry foods like seasoning, coffee, tea, pasta, and rice.
They also get local eggs, local raw milk, local butter, local honey, local salad mix, and local mushrooms.
I spoke with the owner of The Earth Pantry, Alexia Gonzalez, who was able to tell me more about her store and Earth Pantry’s Earth Day Clean-Up and Festival.
Alexia began this journey because she has severe eczema. She wanted to figure out how to treat her eczema naturally and earth-friendly because she’s always had a passion for saving the ocean.
The store also includes homemade products such as lip balm, toothpaste surface cleaners, glass cleaners, and dishwasher detergent. She also makes lotion bars, hair rinse, and dryer balls.
While this is The Earth Pantry’s first clean-up in the Downtown Augusta community this is not Alexia’s first time participating in an Earth Day clean-up.
“I’m a dive master with them[Bubbles or Not], and I love Bubbles or Not, so I started hosting Earth Day Clean-ups over there,” Alexia said.
Earth Pantry’s Earth Day Clean-Up: What To Expect
The clean-up will begin at 9:30 am.
“We’ll meet at the Earth Pantry. We’ll have bags, extra gloves, a way to refill your water, etc. And we’ll split into groups. And then those groups we will send out on routes around Broad Street to pick up trash on the street. And then we’ll reconvene here at the Earth Pantry closer to 10:30,” Alexia said.
Once the clean-up has concluded the festival will begin and vendors will begin to open.
Earth Pantry’s Earth Day Festival – Vendors & More
“Our local vendors are going to be people like Pinefield Eco Farm who will be doing a seed bomb workshop. We’re going to have Billue Family Farm that supplies our local eggs. They’ll be bringing their salad mixes. They might even have some of their chicken meat available. ”
“We’ll also have Heart Pine Homestead which does our sourdough, so she’ll have all her sourdough bread, seasonings, and butters here. We’re going to have Augusta Pops – they’ll be outside with their cart,” Alexia stated.
Alexia said they will also have the Vineyard Church of Augusta, who will be coming to talk about their community garden, their food pantry, and how they give back through meals.
For those who participate in the clean-up, you may even get a special something for doing so!
“In-store, we’re also going to have 15 percent off store-wide,” Alexia said.
Fresh Water Design Company which is located right next door, will be sponsoring the cleanup and they’re also going to be offering coffee outside and anyone who brings a reusable container gets a dollar off their coffee.
Alexia says she is most excited to connect with more people in the downtown area and to keep the environment clean – as it doesn’t just help our planet but helps our health as well.
“One of our main values and verses that are one of the pillars of the Earth Pantry is from Genesis, where he says that the Lord put man in the Garden of Eden to work it and care for it,” Alexia said.
Happy Earth Month!
