Augusta Theatre Getting 10 Million Dollars Worth of Renovations
The theatre that showcased Seussical The Musical, Poison Peach Film Festival, Colton Ballet Nutcracker and more this year will be getting major renovations. This is the Imperial Theatre’s first major renovation in 30 years, which will cost a total of 10 million dollars.
$1.5 million of that budget has been used for new paint and plaster to reholster their mezzanine sets.
This is a five-phase project. With the theater having about 6-8 weeks of downtime with no shows, they are able to start the first phase of the first project. Apart of this first phase will involve ceilings, walls, and frames around the stage to be scraped and re-painted.
The long-term projects include adding an elevator and improving concessions, dressing rooms, and front entrances.
Seems like most of Augusta’s major theaters and arenas in the area are getting an upgrade. Back in May of this year, the Bell Auditorium started its $17.5 million renovation and expansion project for the venue.
That will be its first major renovation in 35 years. Renovations to the Bell Auditorium include new restrooms, more concessions, and a new grand lobby.
They are also hoping to connect the Bell Auditorium to the James Brown Arena.
Construction on the project has already begun. The Bell Auditorium is expected to be closed from this July until May 2024.
Augusta seems to have a lot in store around the downtown community and beyond.
