Dirt Road Diner In Aiken, South Carolina With Great Views
Aiken has a small diner that locals love. The Track Kitchen has served locals since 1957 and is in the middle of Aiken’s Horse District. It’s what I would call a small dive diner. I went early and was in a hurry, and I didn’t have cash on me, only a debit card, so I’ll have to try it another day and remember to bring cash since that’s all they accept. Horses, Jockeys And Breakfast
Framed photos of Aiken’s equestrian history with pictures of horses and jockeys are hanging on the walls, and the menu is simple, but from what I hear, the food is great. They open at seven each morning and close at noon. There are beautiful views everywhere you look in the area, with beautiful horses and acres of training grounds with old historic homes.
Slow Down; Good Food Takes Time
I can’t wait to go back and try it. This looks like it’s your place if you want a good breakfast and a great atmosphere. It’s a simple menu, eggs, bacon, ham, hotcakes, sausage, and coffee. The regular breakfast fare. There was one lady cooking and serving when I was there, so you’ll have to wait a bit, but that’s part of the laid-back atmosphere in this area.
Bonus Points
I give a restaurant big points for a dirt parking lot full of trucks, including trucks with horse trailers and a simple, unassuming building. Bonus points if getting there requires a dirt road. The Track Kitchen in Aiken has all of these simple Southern qualities.
Remember to drive slowly because you are in the horse district and may see horses on the road to the diner, and remember to bring cash!
