LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 06: (EDITORIAL USE ONLY) J. Cole headlines the main stage on Day 1 of Wireless Festival 2018 at Finsbury Park on July 6, 2018 in London, England.

J. Cole’s manager got a lot of reactions from fans on Twitter Wednesday when he responded to Dreamville’s official account. The label asked its followers what J. Cole album they would want to see the North Carolina rapper perform in its entirety. Popular answers were his 2014 Forest Hills Drive, Born Sinner, or his third official mixtape Friday Night Lights. Ibrahim Hamad who also is Dreamville Records Co-Founder and President, replied to the label’s tweet answering with The Fall Off.

His reply garnered almost 10,000 likes and several hundred retweets.

The Fall Off was originally announced in 2018 on social media and is expected to be J. Cole’s last studio album before he drops the mic for good. Before The Fall Off is to be released, Cole has a lineup of projects that will eventually lead to the last album. He’s dubbed these projects “The Fall Off Era.” In that list of projects, he has already completed and released The Off-Season which dropped in 2021. That same year, he spoke to Slam Magazine about how he came up with The Fall Off concept and retiring from rap.

“Oh, bro, I’m super comfortable with the potential of being done with this s—,” the hitmaker explained at the time. “But I’m never going to say, ‘Oh, this is my last album.’ … Because I never know how I’m going to feel two years, three years, four years down the line, 10 years down the line, but please believe, I’m doing all this work for a reason.”

He added, “First it was the thought and the feeling, and I was looking for a phrase to sum that up. That was the birth of it. I found the phrase in 2016, actually, early 2016 when I was working on 4 Your Eyez Only. I found a phrase, I did the hook to the song and I was like, ‘Oh, this is the phrase that sums up this whole chapter for me.’ And that’s when I started working on The Fall Off.”

It still remains unclear when It’s A Boy, the supposed next project in Cole’s line of succession will be released before we enevitely get The Fall Off.
