The new year often brings new things. Some people see it as an opportunity for a fresh start. And some will even set resolutions or goals on ways they can better their lives. But for some, maybe a new career in the new year is something you’ve been thinking about. Columbia County is starting the new year with a few career opportunities.
Fire Rescue Hiring Fair
First up, Columbia County Fire Rescue will have two hiring fairs. The first fair will be Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fire Headquarters (3910 Desoto Drive, Martinez).
This hiring fair is the perfect chance for you to learn more about a career with Fire Rescue. You will have a chance to meet team members and ask questions. It’s a chance to learn about the training, day-to-day operations, and advancement opportunities.
Unlike many hiring fairs, for this one, your family is invited to join you. There will be tours of the fire station and you’ll be able to check out the various equipment rescuers use when responding to calls. In addition, you and your family can take a look inside the fire trucks.
The second hiring fair with Columbia County Fire Rescue will be Thursday, January 11, 2024. This event will also be at Fire Headquarters from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

One of the best ways for success is getting and staying organized. To start 2024 on the right foot, we’ve organized some planners, calendars, and journals to keep you at your best all year.
Planners/Calendars
The easiest way to stay organized is to have a calendar. Whether that calendar is in your office, bedroom, kitchen, or an area in your home that you’re in often without distraction, you should try to hang one there. Each year, you can personalize the calendar and include 12 photos of family photos, favorite animals, snapshots of your vacation, and more.
Planners are a great way to stay ahead of the game. You can bring them along with you while you work at your favorite cafe or designate a time and day in your schedule to write out your to-dos and check back in periodically.
Journals
Journals just aren’t for preteens confessing their admiration for a person in their class. Many adults use journals to jot down their real-life feelings, aspirations, and desires for the future. One of the most popular journals to keep is a daily journal. You can use it to write down some highlights from your day, a negative incident that occurred that you feel better writing about in trying to process your feelings. If time is not on your side, you can make that “daily” journal into a weekly or monthly entry where you can recap your moods throughout a timeline that works best for you.
For book lovers, keeping a reading journal might be an option for you. With a reading journal, you are able to keep track of your reading goals, save your favorite quotes, make a wishlist of books you want to read, and make a list of authors you have your eyes on reading their work. You can also give an in-depth review of some of your favorite books of the year in case any of your friends need a recommendation.
Whatever your hobby is, there is a journal for it to keep you on track. Take a look at some journals, calendars, planners, and more below:
