While watching families walk through the rows of trees, picking out their favorites, Major General Ryan Janovic told WRDW-TV, “It's important that we give back a little bit of time and a little bit of semblance of peace and joy because our army demands so much of our families.”
The festivities began at 5:30 p.m. with a special tree-lighting ceremony featuring families singing holiday carols under the evening sky while watching the installation of a Christmas tree.
Kids jumped with excitement at the arrival of Santa, who made the evening more memorable with family photo ops. Kids' crafts were available for extra entertainment while their parents picked up presents from local donors.
The Kris Kringle Vendor Village offered visitors the opportunity to browse sponsor giveaways. A warm bonfire kept everyone cozy, and a hayride gave families a ride through holiday-themed displays. Volunteers handed out hot chocolate and cookies, filling the air with sweet holiday smells.
