Wife Saver Peach Ice Cream Sandwich – A Review Of This Tasty Treat
During the Masters tournament last year, there was quite a stir when it was announced the peach ice cream sandwich would make its return to the menu at the course. The description of an ice cream sandwich made with two sugar cookies with peach ice cream between them sounded heavenly. But I wasn’t able to make it out to the course, so I missed out. While I knew that Wife Saver had their own version of the ice cream sandwich, I didn’t make it over there last year either.
Peach Ice Cream Sandwich Taste Test
This year, I decided that had to change. Yet again, I wouldn’t be going out to the course. That didn’t mean I couldn’t snag a peach ice cream sandwich though, thanks to Wife Saver on Furys Ferry Road. They did it again this year. In fact, they actually released their version of the sandwich on March 18th. And while the tournament was going on last week, I decided I needed to make it a point to get to Wife Saver before this treat was gone.
On Saturday, the plan was to head to Wife Saver on Furys Ferry and secure a few of the peach ice cream sandwiches. And that’s exactly what we did. We didn’t even eat lunch first. We made it to Wife Saver around 11:30 a.m. I did make sure to call ahead and make sure they still had them!
When we arrived, there was a well-stocked freezer with individually packaged sandwiches. We grabbed three and decided to head outside and do our taste test. It was a beautiful day, so we parked the truck, dropped the tailgate and dug in.
First thing to note, the cookies were a decent size, with a perfect portion of peach ice cream between them. And the first bite did not disappoint. The cookies were the perfect consistency– not too soft, but not crunchy either. The ice cream has pieces of peaches in it, and was creamy and soft, but not to the point where it wouldn’t stay between the cookies. The treat was sweet, without being overly sweet.
I definitely took my time to enjoy each bite. And even eating outside in the warmer weather, the ice cream managed not to start melting or dripping until my last few bites. But that was only because I was taking my time to make it last.
While I’ve never had a peach ice cream sandwich at the Augusta National, I have heard they are delicious. But some have said the ice cream is a bit hard when they first come out of the freezer. Again, since I’ve never had one, I can’t vouch for that. But I will say, the Wife Saver version was worth the drive out to Evans from North Augusta.
I can only hope that Wife Saver will continue to make this a tradition, whether the Augusta National does or not. After the lack of peach ice cream sandwiches at the 2022 Masters, it inspired Wife Saver on Furys Ferry to ensure the treat made a return in 2023. And I’m glad they brought it back again this year, because I finally had a chance to test it out.
