Just a year ago on March 27 of 2023 construction started for The Market in Evans. Today, April 2, at 3pm Columbia County hosted the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for this new addition to the downtown area.

Many people were in attendance along with elected officials. The Market will serve as many things and host many events - it will also be available as a rental space amongst the community. Wether that is for a baby shower or a family gathering.

Community members gathered around anticipating the ribbon cutting.

This market came about because it was approved by voters back in 2017 through the general obligation bond.

Nick Dickinson, CEO of Dickinson Architects, spoke at the ceremony and shared gratitude for being apart of this project.

"It had its challenges, not only with the planning but the construction process. And it took a really strong team to get through this construction phase," Dickinson stated.

John Luton, Director of Community Services, also shared words of excitement for the project.

"We're kind of unofficially calling our grand opening of this on April 20th, Saturday morning from 9 am to 1 pm," Luton said.

That is the date of the first Evans Market of the season. While it use to take place in the parking lot in the area, now it will be held there at the new marketplace. There will be over 100 vendors at the market, while also hosting a public safety and preparedness fair event.

Outside of the brick pillars of The Market is an area that is enclosed by lights at the top.

The ceilings are very high and elongated allowing enough breeze to come in for light and comfortability.
