North Augusta Miracle League Groundbreaking Coming Soon
In a Facebook post earlier this week, SRP Park announced the date for the groundbreaking ceremony for the North Augusta Miracle League. This project is a collaboration between a local nonprofit and the City of North Augusta Parks and Recreation.
Announcement Of Miracle League Field Plans
In a May 2022 report from WRDW, an announcement was made about the plans for a Miracle League field. The RECing Crew, a nonprofit offering recreational programs for those with special needs, had a dream of creating a space for people with disabilities to play sports.
The city of North Augusta approved the plans to build this space, but it’s been a long time coming. There were many things to consider and challenges to overcome. One thing the organization had to consider was that playing on grass isn’t easy for everyone and the uneven surfaces could be an issue.
Pamela Sticker, president of The RECing Crew, wanted the field to be complete accessible. She also wanted to ensure it would be a multipurpose field that can be used by any special needs organizations in the CSRA.
With the challenges, the organization knew they would need to use AstroTurf, and have an accessible dugout. One thing that delayed the process was the high costs. From 2021 to 2022, Stickler told WRDW the price doubled, going from $1 million to $2 million.
According to the North Augusta Miracle League website, the estimate is $1.3 million. And as of this year, $1.2 million has been raised to contribute to this project.
Groundbreaking Ceremony
The long awaited groundbreaking ceremony for the North Augusta Miracle League has finally been announced. The event will be held on Thursday, February 15th at 2 p.m. It will be held at 100 Riverview Park, near the San Salvadore entrance.
After the ceremony, construction is set to start immediately.
A Multipurpose Space
While the North Augusta Miracle Field will be used for baseball, it is designed to be multipurpose. According to the website, the organization hopes to host other activities including tournaments, kickball, pickleball, movie nights, and more.
The RECing Crew also plans to offer the field to other organizations that serve children and adults with disabilities. The field will be used for special programs, outdoor activities, classroom programs, and more.
