An Expo Focused On Non-Traditional Education Coming To The CSRA This Month
CSRA Non-Traditional Education Expo will be coming to Augusta this month, January 27. This will be at the end of National School Choice Week.
The expo will be held at the Kroc Center. The event is hosted by SOAR Academy Augusta and the DEKEL Mpact Services.
SOAR Academy Augusta is a non-traditional private school that focuses on project-based learning for K-12. DEKEl MPact Services is a non-traditional educational center that offers small, flexible options.
This expo is an opportunity to allow those in the CSRA to know that other education options are available within the community.
The expo will include homeschool resources, “how to start a microschool” the Charter school options in the area, the state-funded scholarships that are available for parents to choose the private school of their choice, ABA therapy options, and more!
These are also options for those who live with ADHD, Autism, and Dyslexia.
What is Non-Traditional Education?
Not everyone can be taught the same – that means with youth on into adulthood, education can’t be taught the same to everyone. There is traditional education, which is learning that is provided with lots of structure, discipline, and rules and then there is n0n-tradional education. Whereas non-traditional education provides more flexibility when it comes to how one will receive their education. While there is still structure, things are customized to serve students who have different instructional needs.
Non-traditional schools can look like a lot of things – here are a few:
- Special education schools to serve students with disabilities
- Schools to serve students at-risk of dropping – with the distinct purpose of dropout prevention
- Alternative schools to serve students having behavioral, disciplinary, or academic problems
There will be over 300 attendees at the expo. They will also have vendors focused on sensory-friendly services, Therapy services, and STEM, art music, and PE programs.
If you have a business that seems like it would be a good fit for the expo, they are still accepting vendors. For more about the vendor opportunity contact [email protected]
5 Physical Activities in Augusta That are Tailored Towards Homeschooled Kids to Keep Them Active
Are your kids homeschooled but you want a way for them to participate in art, P.E., music, and sports?
Sometimes with homeschooling, it’s easy to go through the regular academic work assignments and forget to put in that needed exercise. At most public schools, a full class is dedicated solely to some type of physical activity. Whether that is walking, dodgeball, running, etc.
Luckly, there are many CSRA activities that are geared towards kids who are homeschooled. This can easily accomplish the physical activity part of the day.
Kids must indulge in some physical activity for at least one hour every day. Implementing regular physical activities improves muscle strength and boosts endurance.
Establishing a consistent physical workout schedule during the homeschooling day doesn’t have to be difficult, especially with some of the ideas that are listed below. Physical activities can range from sports, a jog or bike ride around the neighborhood, etc.
For these classes listed below, most have a small number that are able to register for each class. Your kid will then be able to be in a small population setting. They will also have the opportunity for exercise lesson plans to be tailored to them. Not only does this activity have to stay during the school days, but your child may find interest in the activity and want to make it a part of their normal routine at home or a routine hobby.
Physical Activities for Homeschooled Kids in the CSRA
These community classes are also a great way for kids to get physical activities, when the parent or the homeschool instructor is not as physically active. It is also a chance for the kid to meet other kids in their age group. Which can be one of the experiences that may not happen as much since the child is homeschooled.
Check out these options below of upcoming community activities happening in Augusta that is tailored towards homeschooled kids.
See which they enjoy the best!
