Jingle Jamming In The Rain – Running This Weekend
Last week I made the decision to sign up for another race. It’s been a while since I ran an actual race. The last race was the Peachtree Road Race on the 4th of July! And if I’m being honest, it’s been a while since I’ve really run some distance. But I’ve missed running races, so I decided to sign up for the Jingle Jam 10K in Evans.
Running Races
Usually this time of year, I run the Palmetto Peach, which is the Saturday after Thanksgiving. But I wasn’t sure we were going to be in town that weekend, so I didn’t sign up for that this year. I saw the photos and it looked like they had a great turn out and a great run. Since I missed that one, I saw that the Jingle Jam 10K was coming up on December 2nd (this Saturday).
I’ve never run this particular race. I have wanted to in the past, but other obligations kept me from being able to run it. But this year, I’m free that day, and decided to go for it.
Supporting Causes
One thing I always consider when signing up for runs is the causes they support. With Jingle Jam, they support those who have been in domestic violence situations. They support SafeHomes Domestic Violence Center in Augusta. While I don’t know much about SafeHomes, I know they help so many people in dangerous situations. And this is a cause that is close to my heart.
SafeHomes helps victims of domestic violence through advocacy, education, and awareness. They help more than 2,000 individuals and their families ech year. And their shelter can house up to 24 individuals in emergency situations.
The founder and race director, Goldei Limbaugh, is a domestic violence survivor. She got help in her situation from SafeHomes. And her story and passion led her to create this event as a gift to survivors everywhere.
Jingle Jam 10K 2023 – The Final Year
It’s described as the “most festive 10K road race in Augusta, GA.” Unfortunately, this year looks like it might be a very wet run, with a 90% chance of rain in the forecast in Evans. But it will be held rain or shine. The website does say: “Depending on the intensity of the weather, cancellation determination will be made by the Jingle Jam 10K Board of Directors.”
The race begins at 8 a.m. at Evans Towne Center Park and follows a 6.2 mile course through Evans. There will be festive entertainment and holiday characters throughout the course. Everything wraps up with a post-race vendors village party.
Unfortunately, this will be the last year for the Jingle Jam 10K. This is the 13th year of the race, but it’s the final one. The founder and race director, Goldei Limbaugh, say everyone on the board felt like it was time to move on. Also, with so much growth in the area, logistics of hosting the 10K has become more difficult.

And please note, if you’re in the area on Saturday, Evans Towne Center Boulevard will be temporarily closed from Ronald Reagan Drive to Antebellum Way between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m.
