Laurence Fishburne Plays A Singing Villain In This Marvel Cartoon
Laurence Fishburne will be playing The Beyonder in Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. It’s a children’s animated series, which he co-created with Helen Sugland. The Matrix actor said that this new role lets him experiment with his distinctive voice.
“I’ve always played around with my voice so this gives me an opportunity to do something really fun and really different,” he said to Robin Roberts on Good Morning America (Wednesday Feb. 8).
During the interview, Roberts plays a clip of Fishburne’s character breaking out into song. He noted that he wouldn’t consider what he does to be “singing.”
He also took the time to explain how he got into wanting to work on a project like Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur with The Ililuminerd.
“As someone who grew up on all that stuff—The Flintstones, Woody Woodpecker… the trajectory of my career as an artist has led me to this place. And it just so happened that I got to meet Moon Girl at the right time and I got to meet Steve [Loter] at the right time. And we’ve all gotten together and here we are in this place where we can bring Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur to an audience that’s hungry for it.”
This is not the first time Fishburne has appeared in superhero properties. He also has had roles in Man of Steel and Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur premiere on February 10th on Disney Channel. It will be available on Disney+ starting February 15.
