Lauryn Hill Teases The ‘Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill’ 25th Anniversary Tour
Ms. Lauryn Hill is looking to take The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill on tour next year to commemorate the iconic album’s 25th anniversary.
“25 years on, so we gonna be back with those songs the way you can recognize them, aye?” she said in part during her set at the ONE Musicfest in Atlanta on Saturday (Oct. 8). The crowd immediately began screaming in excitement at the possibility of Hill going on tour to perform the album in its entirety.
The rapper later performed “To Zion” to her son Zion as he brought her two young grandchildren on stage.
“This is my grandson, Zephaniah. This is my granddaughter, Azaria. This is my son, Zion,” Hill told the crowd before embracing her son. “That was beautiful. Thank you, Zion, I needed that hug. He’s a dad!”
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill featured hits like “Doo Wop (That Thing),” “Ex-Factor” and “Everything Is Everything.” The project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In 1999, Lauryn Hill became the first hip-hop act to win the “Album of the Year” award.
Earlier this year, Hill reunited with her Fugees groupmate Wyclef Jean at the 2022 Essence Festival. She performed a solo rendition of “Killing Me Softly” before being joined by Wyclef Jean on “How Many Mics,” “Fu-Gee-La” and “Ready or Not.”
The last time the Fugees, including Pras, got together was for a surprise pop-up show at The Rooftop at Pier 17 venue in New York City as part of a Global Citizen event in September 2021. It was their first time performing together since 2006.
Shortly, after their appearance in New York, the band announced that they would be going on tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of 1996 album, The Score. However, the international tour was postponed, then later canceled due to COVID-19 making scheduling difficult.
“We anticipate and understand disappointment but our anniversary tour will not be able to happen. The continued Covid pandemic has made touring conditions difficult, and we want to make sure we keep our fans and ourselves healthy and safe,” the Fugees said in a statement per Billboard. “An idea sparked to honor and celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Score but we see now it may not currently be our time for revisiting this past work.”
