CSRA News: Augusta Mayor’s Race Headed for Runoff
As expected, the Augusta Mayor’s race is headed for a runoff.
With nine candidates on the ballot, none had the 50% plus one to win the election outright. It will be Steven Kendrick versus Garnett Johnson in the runoff June 21.
In the Augusta Commission races, Alvin Mason was the winner in District 4; Tony Lewis in District 6; and Brandon Garrett in District 8. There will be two Augusta Commission runoff races. In District 2 it will be Von Pouncey and Stacy Pulliam in the runoff and in District 10, John Clark and Wayne Guilfoyle. Advance voting begins June 13. The runoff election will be held June 21.
In Columbia County, Alison Couch defeated incumbent Dewey Galeas in District 4. There were 2 school board races. Kristi Baker won in District 2, and Judy Simmons Teasley was the winner in District 3.
In statewide races: Governor Brian Kemp defeated former Senator David Perdue in the Republican primary. He now faces Democrat Stacey Abrams in November. Republican Burt Jones will face Democrat Kwanza Hall for Lieutenant Governor. In the U.S. Senate race, Herschel Walker defeated Gary Black and now opposes Democrat Raphael Warnock in November. Brad Raffensperger won the Republican nomination for Secretary of State. The Democratic race hasn’t been decided yet. State School Superintendent: Richard Woods beat John Barge.
