Leah Remini To Guest Host ‘The Wendy Williams Show’
The Wendy Williams Show revealed that their Emmy-winning host, Wendy Williams, will not be returning for the show’s premiere and Leah Remini will be the first of a lineup of guest hosts to fill in for Williams.
Wendy Williams has recently had health complications that have delayed the premiere of her show; finally, the decison was made to have “friends of the show” fill in.
“Wendy’s shoes are hard to fill, so we needed to find the right fit,” executive producer David Perler said in a statement obtained by Page Six on Thursday. “Leah will bring a lot of fun and energy to our viewers with a few surprises along the way.”
According to the press release obtained by the outlet, Remini, will sit in for Williams next Tuesday through Friday for each hour-long episode.
The Oct. 18 episode will be hosted by a panel including Devyn Simone, Bevy Smith, Elizabeth Wagmeister, and Michael Yo, and will give a spin-off on “Wendy segments” such as the popular gossip section “Hot Topics.”
As we previously reported, Williams has been going through some “ongoing health conditions” including testing positive for COVID-19 and later being taken to a mental health hospital for an evaluation.
“She is making progress, but is experiencing serious complications as a direct result of Graves’ Disease and her thyroid condition,” the show said in a statement at the time. “It has been determined that more time is needed before she is able to return to her live hosting duties.”
Although the exact date of Wendy’s return is unclear, her show has said, “As soon as she’s ready, she will be back in her treasured purple chair.”
