Looking Back At Destiny’s Child 9/11 Tribute
In the wake of the devastating terror attack on September 11, 2001, a benefit concert called “The Concert for New York City”, was held in Madison Square Garden that featured several stars performing in honor of the civilians and first responders who tragically lost their lives weeks prior. Paul McCartney and his team organized the benefit where himself, Billy Joel Jay-Z, the Backstreet Boys, Elton John, and R&B trio Destiny’s Child performed.
Destiny’s Child put on a touching performance as they sang two songs from their 2001 Survivor album, “Emotion” and “Gospel (medley).” Each of these songs demonstrates the strength, unity, and pride of New York City despite the historic tragedy.
Other outstanding acts included, “New York State Of Mind” by Billy Joel, “Won’t Get Fooled Again” by The Who, “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters” by Elton John, and “Freedom” by Paul McCartney. The benefit concert was broadcasted live and was later nominated for two Daytime Emmys IMBd.
Today, we share a clip of Destiny’s Child performing “Emotion” and “Gospel (medley)” as we remember those who lost their lives 20 years ago on this day.
