The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the two vehicles collided on Langley Dam Road around 6:30 p.m., not far from Midland Valley High School and Aiken Tech.

Authorities say the person on the dirt bike failed to yield and slammed into the truck as it was turning.

He died at Augusta University Medical Center last night from blunt force injuries.

  • Rising Gas Prices

Gas prices continued to rise nationwide last week and there’s still no relief in sight.

Today’s state average in Georgia is now $3.24 a gallon.  That’s four cents more than a week ago, 13 cents more than last month, and 96 cents more a gallon than at this time last year.

Industry officials say rising crude oil prices continue to drive gas prices higher.

  • City Administrator Resigned

Augusta’s city administrator has been on the job here a little more than a year and he already announced last week that he’s leaving.

Odie Donald told Augusta Commissioners he had accepted another position.  Now we know he’ll soon become Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens’ new chief of staff.

Donald said he was excited to be returning to his hometown, adding that Dickens has one of the most ambitious agendas of any mayor in the country.

Donald’s last day in Augusta will be February 25.

Augusta has made a list of the fastest growing cities in Georgia.

Augusta, now the third largest city in Georgia, had a population of just over 202,000 in 2020.

Augusta is now 19th on the list of the 20 fastest growing cities in Georgia.  Atlanta finished first on the list.

  • Richmond County Teenager

More information has been released about a Richmond County teenager who was found dead on Stone Road late last month.

Investigators say 19 year old Johndrick Oliphant was found dead from at least one gunshot wound on January 28.

A suspect still hasn’t been identified.

Meanwhile, investigators say Oliphant was wanted in connection with the death of Khalil Baker in December.  A warrant for Oliphant’s arrest had been issued just days before he was killed.  No other suspects have been named.
