The kids are back in school, Labor Day has passed, pumpkin spice is everywhere, and Fall family events are being added to the calendar. Fall is underway here in the CSRA, despite the fact that we will probably see warm temperatures for quite a while. But with the new season, comes seasonal events, and it seems there will be no shortage of fall family events around the CSRA, so be sure to check out our list below! And come back throughout the season as we add more to it. If you have an event to add, be sure to send us an email.
The Fall Season
Most people consider Labor Day to be the end of the Summer season, and the beginning of Fall. It’s the season between Summer and Winter when the days start gradually getting shorter and the temperatures (hopefully) begin to decrease. While we may refer to it as “Fall,” Autumn is the official name of the season, and it doesn’t officially begin until the autumnal equinox.
The autumnal equinox is marked by the time when the Sun is directly over the Equator and the day and night are equal in length. This year, that day falls on Sunday, September 22. And Autumn lasts until the shortest day of the year, the winter soltice, which is Saturday, December 21.
The fall season brings about change. There’s the fact that routines change, with kids back in school. Then of course, there’s the weather changing and leaves changing colors and falling from the trees. But it also brings so many great things.
Here in the South, one thing many of us look forward to in the Fall is football season. There’s nothing quite like game day in the South! Getting together with friends and family to watch the game, cheer on your team, and enjoy “football food”.
Once the weather cools off, it’s the perfect time to enjoy a fire in the fireplace, or plan a bonfire with friends to roast hot dogs and make s’mores. It’s also the time to pull out those hoodies you’ve stored away.
Also with the fall season, there’s an array of scents and flavors to indulge in. Of course, pumpkin spice has gained massive popularity, but it’s not the only flavor or scent to enjoy. There’s caramel apple, cinnamon, maple, and more. Whether it’s your favorite coffee flavor or a new fall-scented candle, now’s the time to get it in.
And of course, with a new season, there are many events to check out. Fall festivals and Halloween themed events are happening almost every weekend. Below, we’ve rounded up some Fall family events in the CSRA to check out. And don’t forget to come back for additional events that may be added to this list. And send your own events to us to add!
