MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA - JANUARY 09: Head coach Brian Flores of the Miami Dolphins takes the field during introductions prior to the game against the New England Patriots at Hard Rock Stadium on January 09, 2022 in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Former NFL Miami Dolphins coach Brian Flores was fired from his head coaching position last month, and now, the ex-coach has made headlines for alleging that the NFL has discriminatory hiring and firing practices. He is filing a lawsuit against theNFL  and three individual teams.

The Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, and New York Giants along with the NFL  are being named in the lawsuit for allegedly discriminating against Flores regarding his interview processes with Denver and New York and his firing last month by Miami.

Per ESPN, Flores alleges that “Dolphins owner Stephen Ross attempted to incentivize him to ‘tank,’ or purposely lose games, shortly after he was hired in 2019, with Ross allegedly offering Flores $100,000 for every loss that season.” With a worse record, the team stood to get better draft picks for the following season.

Additionally, Ross allegedly asked Flores to find a “prominent” quarterback but refused to not violate the NFL’s tampering rules. However, Ross allegedly invited Flores to lunch on a yacht back in 2020, where the quarterback was also allegedly seemingly invited to. Flores refused to meet the player and left. Afterward, Flores alleges he was “treated with disdain and held out as someone who was noncompliant and difficult to work with,” per the outlet.

More details have surfaced in favor of Flores’ case, including details of an interaction with New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. An accidental congratulatory text from Belichick to Flores three days before his interview for a vacant head coaching job with the New York Giants tipped off the former NFL coach as he realized that the interview was under disingenuous circumstances. Belichick meant to text Brian Daboll whom the team hired prior to Flores’ interview.

“I have two sons, eight and seven, I got a five-year-old daughter, when I look at them, I don’t want them to go through some of the things I have had to go through,” Flores said on CNN’s New Day.

He said he went through a “wave of emotions” when he realized that his interview was a “sham.”

“[It was] Humiliating to be quite honest. There was disbelief, there was anger. There was a wave of emotions for a lot of reasons,” he said.

When asked if he feels this case will drawback his career he responded: “If there’s change, it’ll be worth it.”
