August 26th is a day marked as National Dog Day. But for pet owners everywhere, you know that one day would never be enough to celebrate the love and joy your dogs have brought into your life. Every day is a great day when you have a dog to greet you at the door each day. So today, let’s celebrate that love a little more in honor of the “holiday”! And see some photos of my pups below!
History Of National Dog Day
According to NationalDogDay.com, this special day was founded in 2004, which means this year is the 20th anniversary of the special day. It was founded by Animal Welfare Advocate, Author, and Pet Lifestyle Expert Colleen Paige. It’s a day to celebrate all breeds while also bringing attention to the many dogs that need to be rescued each year from shelters and rescues.
The day celebrates and honors family dogs, as well as working dogs. Whether it’s the family dog protecting his home and family, a police K-9, a service dog, a bomb or drug dog, or a search and rescue dog, these animals work hard day in and day out. National Dog Day is a special day dedicated to these beloved animals that supply us with endless love and loyalty.
