For the most part, Fox’s work on the X-Men was grounded, neglecting the cosmic side of the characters. Marvel Studios will not make the same mistake. According to Sutton’s inside sources, Kevin Feige fully intends to explore the extraterrestrial side to the mutants, especially Lilandra, and the Shi’ar Empire. Marvel Studios plans to either introduce or reference the Shi’ar Empire on the upcoming Disney+ S.W.O.R.D. TV series before unleashing them on the silver screen. How they will fit into an upcoming X-Men theatrical film remains to be seen but there is no doubt that it will happen.
Sutton was also told that Deathbird, Lilandra’s evil sister, is being developed as a villain in Captain Marvel 3 so the potential of the Shi’ar Empire and the X-Men in that movie is quite strong. Only time will tell.
