Weekend Winter Weather in the CSRA
We received the following information today (Wednesday) on weather predictions for this upcoming weekend in the CSRA: According to the National Weather Service, Columbia County could be in for some winter weather this weekend. As of right now, the NWS expects rain on Thursday evening into Friday morning. Prediction models show the overnight temperatures should not fall below freezing for the Friday morning commute to school/work. However, please show caution while driving. NWS predicts winds from 10-15mph which could contribute to roads freezing over faster than currently projected. Black Ice can always be a factor. Friday shows rain with a potential for a slight bit of snow into the afternoon. The temperature will drop throughout the late morning/afternoon and the evening could bring more of a wintery mix including 10mph winds, cold rain, a dusting of snow for parts of the county and potential for freezing rain from Friday afternoon/evening into Saturday morning up to one tenth of an inch (0.1”). Whatever precipitation we have from Thursday until Saturday morning will freeze overnight Friday into Saturday morning. There will be Black Ice on the roads Saturday morning until Saturday afternoon. Please exercise caution and stay home if possible. We will know more over the next 24-48 hours and should be able to narrow the arrival times of the winter precipitation. **Update provided by EMA Director, Shawn Granato **Graphics provided by the National Weather Service
