New Doc ‘Public Enemies’ Explores Kendrick Lamar Vs Drake Beef
Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s feud almost broke the internet earlier this year, and Channel 4.com is now taking a closer look with a new documentary. According to Deadline, Public Enemies: Kendrick vs Drake will feature old footage and interviews with people who know and have worked with the rappers. It will trace how both Lamar and Drake rose to fame. The documentary will also explore why they are so widely praised while connecting their careers to the history and culture of the time.
According to the report, the documentary will be produced by Acme Films and GroupM Motion Entertainment. Public Enemies will also dig into the beef that got more intense earlier this year with several diss tracks. It ended with Lamar’s song Not Like Us, which hinted that Drake had disrespected the rap scene and even accused him of inappropriate behavior. Drake fired back with his own diss track, The Heart Part 6, denying everything. Several music outlets have since called Lamar the winner of the feud.
This isn’t the first time Channel 4 has covered rapper beefs. In 2017, they released Public Enemies: Jay-Z v Kanye, also produced by Acme.
Shaminder Nahal from Channel 4 told Deadline “‘Public Enemies: Kendrick vs Drake is not just a biography. It’s a cultural exploration of two of the most influential voices in modern music. This documentary will delve into the unique journeys of Kendrick and Drake, examining how their backgrounds, talents, and visions have made them global icons.”
Earlier this year, Lamar and Drake traded shots in a series of diss tracks. The feud came to a head when Drake dropped his new diss track The Heart Part 6, where he claimed Lamar’s disses were based on false info from Drake’s team. He also denied the allegations of inappropriate behavior that Lamar had mentioned in Meet the Grahams.
Recently, Drake appeared at a Toronto club and grabbed the mic to talk about “real friends.” He said, “My real friends are definitely in the building. But let me tell you, you’re going to come to a point in life where people you thought were friends, people you thought were close to you switch up.”
He continued to criticize fake friends, adding, “They might try to move funny with you. They might stab you in the back. They might do a lot of things to you. You’ll come to that realization, wherever you’re at in life. You’ve probably been there and you’ll be there again. That’s how life is. Sometimes it’s you and you alone by yourself.”
