The Augusta Fire Department graduated a new class of recruits last Friday. These firefighters wrapped up their training with a ceremony at Augusta Tech.

Graduates finished a program that prepared them to respond to emergencies in the city.

One graduate spoke to younger students. He urged them to chase their dreams. "Start, start do what you got to do it's right here, it's bigger than what you think it is it's like a lifetime achievement that you couldn't even imagine words so to serve your city, to serve your community, serve yourself don't wait to do that it's always time for you," the graduate said, according to WRDW.

Officials held the event at the technical college to mark the completion of recruit training, which means the new members will now join the force and answer calls across town.

This graduation came roughly two months after the fire department's three-year strategic plan won approval. City officials adopted the plan to boost response in the community.

The strategic plan was completed in early March 2026, and city leaders backed this initiative to improve how quickly crews can respond when people need help.

The new recruits will work at stations throughout the city with existing crews. The training program taught essential skills. Recruits learned to fight fires, perform rescues, and provide medical care when seconds count.

Augusta Tech hosted the graduation ceremony. The facility has partnered with the department to train new members for years.
