I really need a day in between Sunday and Monday. — Unknown

I’m sure we can all relate to needing an extra day to the weekend. Sunday comes and for many, even just thinking about the Monday to come, brings anxiety and dread. There’s actually a term that people use, known as the Sunday Scaries. And from what many experts say, it can have serious effects on your health and well-being…

So what exactly are the Sunday Scaries? It’s the time that kicks in on Sunday afternoon or early evening where you start to experience anxiety, dread, irritability, low mood, and more when you start to even think about the week ahead.

For some people it’s because the truth is, they don’t like their job and the thought of going there brings on early stress. For others, it has to do with not having enough time to get everything done that they need to in those two days. I feel like many people, and I don’t have any facts to back this up, but I think we all get a little salty that those two days that are supposed to be relaxing and fun, often turn into the opposite. We all have so much going on that we’re constantly playing catch-up in our lives. Catching up on chores, and sleep, and appointments, and engagements. It’s a struggle to fit that relaxation and fun in.

But the news isn’t all bad. We’re all trying to find the good and the positive in our situations. It’s why Positively Pebbles exists. So what do we do? There’s a really informative video below that you can watch to give you some insight and tips to help you conquer those Sunday Scaries. I also found this article about warding off the Sunday Scaries before the new week begins.

My personal thoughts on this? I think it all goes back to us doing a better job at staying present and in the moment. Not that we fly by the seat of our pants through life, but we shouldn’t be trying to “fit in” relaxation and fun. We need to be intentional about making it an integral part of our lives. Don’t put off meeting up with family and friends you haven’t seen in a while. Go get that long overdue pedicure you’ve been needing. Or maybe that’s just me! Stop scrolling and get a good night’s sleep. The laundry, dishes, and whatever else can wait. Even if you start with prioritizing fun and joyful activities for one small period of time on the weekend, it’s a start.

Life is tough, but it’s also beautiful. We owe it to ourselves to chase away that Sunday dread, and work just as hard at creating a peaceful and happy life for ourselves.

Now go to something fun today!

Positively yours,
Pebbles 💜
