“People don’t fake depression. They fake being okay.” - Unknown

How are you? No, how are you REALLY? I recently had to ask myself that, and thought I would encourage you to do the same for yourself. Have you checked in with yourself about your mental health? Or are you just going through life on autopilot?

I don’t know about you, but I’m so used to answering the question, “How are you?” with “fine,” that I had to check-in with myself and figure out if I really am fine. And since I don’t completely trust myself to be honest with myself 100% of the time, I figured I should call in the professionals.  And besides that, I think many times we don’t always ask ourselves the right questions, or we don’t (or ignore) some of the red flags right in front of our faces.

I’ve shared my struggles with anxiety and depression before, and also the use of medication to manage them. I also shared that I made the decision, with my psychiatrist, to come off of those meds last year. This winter kicked my butt, and with spring now officially upon us, I wanted to check to see if medication is something I need to revisit. And I’m not confident that that’s a decision I can make on my own. I also have an appointment coming up with my therapist who I now see on an as-needed basis. Looks like now is one of the as-needed moments. In case someone is confused, all therapists aren’t licensed to prescribe medication.

I’m spilling my guts today because I know that I’m not the only one who needs a mental health check-in. I have friends, family, and people I’ve seen online, talk about struggling right now. With everything that’s not only going on in our work and personal lives, we are dealing with issues in our country and in the world that are extremely distressing and stressful. All of these things coming down on us at once, can feel like a mental health perfect storm.

I know I don’t have all the answers for you, or for myself, but I just wanted to put this on your radar so that you can check in with yourself and make sure you’re okay. And if you’re not, you can take the steps to get better.

Hope you have a great week and enjoy our first official week of spring! And please take care of your mental health. You deserve it.

Positively yours,
Pebbles 💜
