The Salvation Army of Augusta received $3,500 from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation on Jan. 12, 2026. It's part of Nourishing Neighbors.

The cash will go straight to the Center of Hope Soup Kitchen on Greene Street, which dished out more than 54,000 meals to hungry people in 2025.

"Because of this gift from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, the Center of Hope will continue to meet this most basic need as our caseworkers create space for families and individuals to work toward stability, employment, and housing — taking tangible steps on their journey out of poverty with dignity and hope," the Salvation Army said in a statement, according to The Augusta Chronicle.

The group runs one of the busiest service operations around town. Workers there help families and individuals tackle goals like securing a place to live and jobs.

This $3,500 will keep the kitchen cranking out hot food when winter hits. Requests for meal help stay high.

When clients sit down to eat, caseworkers grab the chance to talk about what else they might need, like job prep classes and housing leads.
