A Grovetown resident snagged $1 million when midnight struck on New Year's Day. The winner claimed one of three top prizes in the Georgia Millionaire second-chance drawing.
Georgia Lottery officials revealed the winners as 2026 began. Two others from College Park and Lawrenceville also won $1 million apiece in the same draw.
"Congratulations to the Georgia Lottery's first millionaires of 2026," said Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin, per WRDW. "What an exciting start to the new year. We look forward to celebrating many more winners and special moments as we work diligently throughout the year to maximize revenues for HOPE and Pre-K."
Georgia Millionaire is a scratcher game. Players can win $10,000 right away. But there's more: a second-chance drawing picks three people to win $1 million on New Year's Day.
Players submitted their losing Georgia Millionaire tickets for another shot at the big money. This marked the first time the state lottery tried something like this.
Money from the Georgia Lottery pays for HOPE scholarships and Pre-K programs statewide. The program has helped students pay for school since its creation.
Winners get 180 days from the drawing date to claim what they've won. Anyone who wins more than $250,000 must visit a claim center in person.
