North Augusta Schools Earn Record Number of ‘Excellent’ Ratings on State Report Cards

Getty ImagesThree schools in North Augusta snagged Excellent ratings on the latest South Carolina School Report Cards. This marks a first for the district. Belvedere Elementary, Hammond Hill Elementary, and North Augusta Middle scored top marks.
North Augusta Middle School hit an Excellent rating for the first time in over 10 years, a breakthrough that coincided with broader gains throughout Aiken County Public Schools, where nearly half of all schools climbed at least one proficiency rating.
Every school in the North Augusta area met or surpassed the state's benchmarks. Almost 60% of district schools received Good or Excellent marks for overall school climate.
Area Two elementary and middle schools showed strong student growth. A whopping 86% of these schools demonstrated Good or Excellent growth. The ratings capture performance across multiple measures tracked by the state.
Mossy Creek Elementary, Highland Springs Middle, Paul Knox Middle, and North Augusta High received Good ratings, while North Augusta Elementary got an Average rating.
Colen Lindell, a member of the Aiken County Board of Education representing District 4, said the results show the work of teachers, staff, parents, and students. "Behind every data point are teachers who go the extra mile, staff members who create nurturing environments, parents who stay engaged, and students who strive to achieve their best," said Lindell in a letter to the Post and Courier.
The district representative called the achievements proof of teamwork. Lindell pointed out that the scores show what makes the community special.
The South Carolina School Report Cards give annual ratings for schools. They're based on student performance, growth, and other factors. The ratings span from Unsatisfactory to Excellent.
