A new hospital in Evans is now open, after an official ribbon-cutting was held this week at the new Doctors Hospital emergency room in Columbia County. The 10,860-square-foot freestanding facility on North Belair Road will bring expanded medical services to Evans.
The emergency room has 11 private treatment rooms and one trauma bay. Georgia licensed the facility, which runs 24 hours a day with trained emergency physicians on staff.
Joanna Conley, CEO of Doctors Hospital, said the location will offer the same care as the main campus. "This freestanding ER will have all of the services that we have that are traditional ER that's attached to a hospital," said Conley, according to WRDW.
Advanced imaging capabilities, CT and X-ray machines, and laboratory and pharmacy services are available at the site.
"This facility specifically has 11 treatments including a trauma room, it also has CT X-ray, laboratory and pharmacy so whether you have a child whose had an injury or you are feeling really sick and you're worried do I need to come to the hospital for care, you can come to this freestanding emergency room and receive our same excellent treatment you would be getting at our main Doctors Hospital campus," Conley said.
The freestanding location expects its first patient on Dec. 2.
A new Wellstar hospital just off the Grovetown exit should be finished by April. That facility will have inpatient beds and an emergency department. The project will bring more than 1,200 jobs to the area.
Both facilities will give easier access to emergency medical care without traveling to Augusta.
