The partnership allows residents to donate to both groups at any location across the CSRA through Dec. 31.
"The conversation was what can Goodwill do to help and we're already a donation site for clothes and household goods, so we decided to reach out to our local food bank partners and say what can we do to help..." said Leah Pontani, senior vice president of career development at Goodwill of Middle Georgia and the CSRA, according to WRDW.
Pontani explained that the program addresses a pressing need. Families affected by reduced SNAP benefits need help now. "Having something like a lack of snap benefits, people not getting those benefits, and the number of families that are impacted is an astounding number, and we want to do anything we can to make sure people have what they need, especially during the holiday season," she said.
The food drive supports the existing mission of helping people through job training, education, and scholarships funded by contributions and purchases. The most-needed nonperishable food items include canned proteins, vegetables, rice, pasta, peanut butter, and cereal.
