The HUB for Community Innovation will host Book Bash on June 7, where kids can pick up free books between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

"Literacy is the foundation of a thriving community. Book Bash is a celebration of stories, learning and togetherness—a chance for us to connect and grow through books," said Cheryl Odom, Community Impact Specialist Program Manager at United Way of the CSRA, to Augusta Good News.

Staff members aim to pack 1,500 bags with reading materials. Young readers will get five to 10 books matched to their age group. The selection spans from picture books for babies to novels for teens.

The event offers more than books. Children can join craft stations and listen to stories. Throughout the day, Disney princesses will stop by to greet young visitors.

United Way of the CSRA leads this project. Support comes from Augusta University Harris Literacy Center, RISE Augusta, and AmeriCorps VISTA. Financial backing flows from SRP Federal Credit Union and Wellstar MCG.

This effort targets children with limited access to books at home. Studies show reading skills often slip during summer break. Book Bash aims to prevent this slide by putting books in kids' hands.
