A medical outreach bus rolled into the Washington Road Kroger parking lot this week. Until Thursday, shoppers can get free health screenings and wellness tips from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Georgia Cancer Center's mobile clinic.

Kids and adults crowd around a gleaming NASCAR Cup Series car while medical staff demonstrate lung function using interactive displays. The racing theme draws curious onlookers who stick around to learn about shots and smart food choices.

By setting up right at the store, medical staff meet people where they already go. Shoppers can pop in for a quick check-up during their regular trips to buy groceries.

“Georgia ranks last in health outcomes and also in regards to access,” said Dr. Dan Miller to wrdw.com. “We have to go to the people, so this is the beginning. Having this event for three days, and as we go out further, like lung cancer screening, and a mobile unit later this fall, we will go to the rural areas in the state.”

The bright mobile clinic stands out in the parking area. Staff check vital signs and give health advice steps away from the shopping carts.

Working together with Kroger's pharmacy team boosts the program's reach. More shoppers learn about staying well through this team effort.

Medical gear packed into the mobile unit lets staff check patients on the spot. This helps busy folks who can't take time off for far-away doctor visits.

The shiny race car works like a magnet, pulling in crowds who then stick around. Young and old alike come for the car but stay to pick up health tips.

Staff point out which groceries boost lung health. They also tell folks when to get shots that stop sickness before it starts.

Inside the bus, private spaces let medical staff give one-on-one attention. They look at each person's health needs and map out next steps.

Walk right up any afternoon, no scheduling needed. The medical team welcomes everyone who stops by.
