Winter Weather Updates For The CSRA
The CSRA has the potential for some winter weather on Friday. Below is the latest weather update along with local school updates.
Currently, WJBF reports the southern portion of the CSRA is under a Cold Weather Advisory until 9 a.m. this morning. Overnight, lows will be in the upper teens to low 20s. The wind chill could be as low as 15 degrees. The Winter Storm Watch goes into effect from 7 a.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Saturday for the northern portion of the CSRA. Jenna Petracci says the threat of a winter mix will mostly be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
Here are the latest predictions:
- North of I-20: 80% chance of winter weather. 0.10″ – 1.5″ of snow, 0.10″ – 0.5″ of ice. (Edgefield, McCormick, Lincoln, Wilkes, etc.)
- Central CSRA: 40% chance of winter weather. 0.10″ – 0.25″ of snow, 0.10 – 0.25″ of ice. (Richmond, Aiken, Columbia, McDuffie, etc.)
- South CSRA: 20% chance of winter weather. Only trace amounts of snow and ice possible. (Emanuel, Jenkins, Screven, Allendale, etc.)
Winter Weather School Updates
The possibility of wintry weather in the CSRA on Friday has some school systems already announcing some changes.
For Edgefield and McCormick Counties, it will be an e-learning day on Friday. In Aiken County, school officials say all athletic practices, games, arts activities, after-school care, and other school or district-sponsored events for Friday have been canceled. Any events scheduled to be held before noon on Saturday will also not take place.
In Richmond County, school officials say they will provide updates about Friday’s schedule no later than 2 p.m. today.
