Quavo Named Humanitarian of the Year By Variety
Migos rapper, Quavo, is gaining recognition for his community service. During the 8th annual Variety Hitmakers Brunch, he was honored as the Humanitarian of the Year.
The GRAMMY-nominated rapper has been an advocate against gun violence heavily since the loss of his nephew and former Migos group member, Takeoff, in 2022. Since then, he has done a lot of work in combating the gun violence epidemic through his Rocket Foundation, which he formed in Takeoff’s honor.
They recognized his work in advocating against gun violence and using his voice to make an impact. He was presented the award by Greg Jackson, Deputy Director of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. Jackson praised Quavo for his hard work and efforts.
Quavo Advocates for Gun Violence with Foundation
The Rocket Foundation was launched in 2022 following Takeoff’s death. The foundation is “committed to ending gun violence in America.” The website states that they “uplift and invest in interventions that effectively reduce community violence so neighborhoods can thrive. Based in Georgia, our work will establish Atlanta as a national model for gun violence reduction that is replicable in other American cities.”
In just the two years of its existence, they have introduced Sparks Grants which has distributed $10,000 each to 10 Atlanta organizations dedicated to creating safer neighborhoods in the Atlanta area. He has also hosted a music education workshop for at-risk youth in the Atlanta area as part of the Rocket Camp initiative.
Besides advocating against gun violence, he continues to make music and continue the legacy he once began when he was part of the rap group, Migos, with Takeoff and Offset. He has achieved multiple No. 1 hits and will continue in music and advocating against gun violence.
