Just 6 days after the devastation and damage from Hurricane Helene, the city of Aiken has seen another loss. McKinney Tire Service in Aiken caught fire on Wednesday, October 2. A call came in at 2:01 p.m. about the fire at the tire store at 856 York Street Northeast.

Fire At McKinney Tire Service in Aiken

Aiken Department of Public Safety arrived to find heavy black smoke coming from the roof and the rest of the building. Firefighters immediately worked to put the fire out. Two hours later, they were still working to extinguish the flames.

Emergency Medical Services responded to the incident and transported one person to the hospital. In a comment on the Aiken Info Facebook page, someone said they spoke to a family member, and the person injured was an employee and it's believed they should be okay.

Others commented sending their thoughts and prayers, and also talked about the McKinney family and what a great business it is. The McKinney Tire Service website shows they have proudly been serving the Aiken area for over 20 years.

As of 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, the Aiken Info Facebook page shared a photo and said the business has suffered a total loss.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. No other information is available at this time.

This is the second tire store in the Aiken area to experience a fire this year. Back in April, Jack Rogers Tire Pros shop on Richland Avenue in Aiken was completely destroyed by a fire that happened during the night.
