Georgia City Named Safest in America by Experts
A new survey from U.S. News and World Report looks at the 25 most dangerous and safest cities in America, and one Georgia city tops one of the lists. Thankfully, it’s the list of the safest cities in America. I think it’s incredible that this Georgia city is considered the safest anywhere. The tally is part of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Places to Live rankings.
Experts Name Georgia City the Safest in the Country
U.S. News & World Report’s Best Places to Live rankings are created to help people make informed decisions about where to live. According to the outlet, “Cities in the rankings are evaluated using data from sources including the U.S. Census Bureau, the FBI, the U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. News’ own internal resources.” They add that the data was categorized into the four indexes and evaluated using a methodology based on Americans’ preferences. “The percent weighting for each index follows the answers from a February 2024 public survey in which people from across the country voted for what they believed was the most important factor to consider when choosing where to live,” they continued. This same methodology was used for both the safest cities to live and most dangerous.
Before we get to our area, let’s look at the most dangerous city in America, according to the study. It’s Memphis, Tennessee. It’s interesting to see Memphis topping the tally, but according to the numbers, they top that unflattering list. They give it an overall score of 5.8, quality of life a score of 5.2 and value of 7.1. No. 2 on the tally of the most dangerous cities in America is St. Louis, Missouri, followed by Detroit, Michigan, and No. 3, Birmingham, Alabama at No. 4 and Little Rock, Arkansas at No. 5.
Now, the No. 1 safest city in America, according to the study, is Augusta, Georgia. Of the spot, the publication states, “Most out-of-towners recognize Augusta as the home of the Masters golf tournament, but those who live here know there’s much more to the area than fairways and sand traps. Founded in the early 1700s along the Savannah River, Augusta played a crucial role in the Revolutionary and Civil wars. Augusta even spent a decade as the state capital in the late 18th century, and more recently, Augusta was the childhood home of James Brown, the ‘Godfather of Soul.'” So, there you have it. The safest city in America. No. 2 on their tally is Montgomery, Alabama, and No. 3 is South Bend, Indiana.
