Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The current presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump has been divisive, and that means every vote will be carefully counted. Below are important details on how and when you can vote, registration deadlines, early voting deadlines, and polling location information.

Voter Registration Deadlines

Only registered voters may vote in the upcoming election. Those not currently registered or are unsure of registration status can find out much of that information online.

Georgia Residents:

For Georgia residents, eligibility includes being a citizen of the United States and a legal resident of the county. To register, you must be at least 17 1/2 years of age, but 18 years of age to vote. Additional requirements include not having a felony conviction involving moral turpitude and not having been found mentally incompetent by a judge.

Voter registration status can be found on the Secretary of State's My Voter Page

Voter registration applications can be submitted online here. They can also be sent by mail with the postage-paid voter registration application found here

The current voter registration deadline in Georgia: mail must be postmarked by October 7th and in-person registration at your local election office must be done by close of business on October 7th. Online registration is also available through October 7th.

South Carolina Residents:

Eligibility in South Carolina is similar to Georgia, with the addition of not being confined in any public prison resulting from a conviction of a crime and having never been convicted of a felony or offense against election laws. Those previously convicted must have served the entire sentence, including probation or parole, or have received a pardon for the conviction.

Online voter registration applications are available here. Registration by mail, email, or fax is also available and requires completing this form and returning it to your county board of voter registration. Additionally, in-person registration is also available at County Board of Voter Registration offices. Locations for each county’s office can be found here

The deadlines for South Carolina voter registration: mail must be postmarked by October 7th, in-person registration must be done by 5 p.m. on October 4th, and online registration must be completed by 11:59 p.m. on October 6th.

Absentee Ballots And Early Voting

In Georgia, absentee ballots are available for registered voters who prefer not to vote in person. No excuse is required to request an absentee ballot, however, ballots must  be requested 5 p.m. on October 25th and returned via mail or in person by 7 p.m. on November 5th.

For South Carolina, absentee ballots are available but must be requested by October 25th at 5 p.m. State law no longer allows absentee ballot requests to be made online or via email. You may call, visit, or send your request by mail to your county voter registration office. Find your location here. Absentee ballots must be received via mail or in person by 7 p.m. on November 5th.

Early voting in Georgia is between October 15th and November 1st. For South Carolina, early voting is available from October 21st through November 2nd. To find early voting location in Georgia, click here. For early voting locations in South Carolina, click here
