Pharrell Williams Unveils Trailer For LEGO Biopic ‘Piece By Piece’
Pharrell Williams is such a creative soul, and his upcoming biopic’s trailer proves just that. The artist is telling his life story with LEGO animation in a movie called Piece by Piece. This movie will feature a cast filled with a variety of artists.
When you first see the trailer, it looks like a typical LEGO movie. It starts with Williams sharing his idea to tell his life story using LEGO’s with film director Morgan Neville. It then continues to recreate the “Happy” music video, eventually going straight into his life story.
If you’re a fan of The LEGO Movie, you’ll notice that Williams is a master builder who can create anything using his imagination. The only difference is that he does this with LEGO bricks representing his music.
Who’s making a LEGO-fied appearance in Pharrell Williams’ Piece by Piece?
The movie will feature other artists such as Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, and Snoop Dogg.
The film’s description reads, “Piece by Piece is a unique cinematic experience that invites audiences on a vibrant journey through the life of cultural icon Pharrell Williams. Told through the lens of LEGO animation, turn up the volume on your imagination and witness the evolution of one of music’s most innovative minds.” The trailer also teased brand-new music by Williams that will be part of this movie, as well as songs that he’s known for.
In 2018, Variety reported that the biopic would be produced by Illumination Studios and that it would be “made from scratch.” However, plans changed as it was later reported in January 2024 that Williams teamed up with The LEGO Group, and Focus Features to produce his film, with Pure Imagination Studios also joining the project.
Reactions to the trailer
The trailer received some positive feedback. Someone created a Reddit thread so fans can share their thoughts. Many people commented on how LEGO needs to release a set based on this movie. “Oh d*mn I NEED a Lego Snoop Dogg,” someone said. One person said, “I like the custom head/bald piece they invited for Pharrell, I would hope Lego does something similar someday.” Some people did ask what the movie would be rated. It’s not yet rated.
Focus Features’ Piece by Piece hits theaters on October 11. Take a look at the trailer for the upcoming biopic below.
