Is Graceland Going To Be Auctioned Off?
Is Graceland going to be auctioned off? This couldn’t possibly be real right? Not according to a new story that has just come out. This article is saying that Graceland is set to be a part of a foreclosure auction that will take place in Memphis this week. As you can imagine, a lot of Elvis fans, including myself, have their eyes focused on what’s going on with this.
Graceland Can’t Be Auctioned Off, Can It?
This morning I woke up to seeing someone had tagged me in the comments on an article from WJBF. According to this article, Graceland and all of the land surrounding it was set to be auctioned off for cash on the courthouse steps in Memphis later this week. Elvis Presley’s granddaughter Riley Keough filed a temporary restraining order yesterday to block the sale. The restraining order was granted, and a hearing is set for tomorrow.
So long story short, there is a company called Naussany Investments and Private Lending, and they’re saying Lisa Marie Presley owes them money. According to the article from WJBF, the legal notice claims Lisa Marie Presley signed a deed of trust in 2018, securing a $3.8 million loan with a Missouri company called Naussany Investments and Private Lending, using Graceland as collateral. The company alleges she never paid the money back before she passed away last January.
However, Riley, who is Lisa Marie’s daughter and Elvis’ granddaughter, said this is all totally false. She says all of these documents are totally fraudulent. Is Graceland going to be auctioned off? I highly doubt it. I’m sure this will all work itself out, and Graceland will stay with The Presley family, as it has since 1957 when Elvis bought Graceland.
Graceland Was Almost Auctioned Off In The Past
There was one time when Graceland almost got auctioned off. In the early 1980s, there was a real possibility of Graceland being sold. However, Elvis’ ex-wife Priscilla and some investors decided to open Graceland to the public and turn it into a museum for tours. That’s how Graceland became what it is today.
