It's a new month which means it's time for new adventures, new experiences, and new events! Columbia County Parks Recreation and Events have released their coming events for April. I don't know about you, but I've got my calendar ready to be filled with some local fun.

Let's start with what they have going on for this week and go on from there! While this may not be everything happening in Columbia County and surely not in the CSRA, this is just something to get your month going.

April 1 kicks off with Birding 101. Birding 101 is a guided bird walk at one of the parks in Columbia County.

Another event going on this week, on April 3, is Wellness Wednesdays, which is a program designed for homeschooled kids ages 5 - 10. For those that are younger, Lil Waders will also be taking place and that program is designed for preschoolers aged 2-5.

Then there is a break from events for Masters week - one of the biggest weeks in the CSRA.

April 20: Evans Market will be back with a grand opening! The market will have an all-new look, vibe, and vendors. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the market will take place April 2 at 3 pm. As stated, this new market space is an open-air venue to host not only the market, but also can be rented out for family gatherings, birthday parties, baby showers, and more.

April 20: Kayaking Adventure - At 9 am community members will paddle off with Cole Watkins Kayaking tour on the Wild Donkey experience.

April 22-27: Earth Week at Reed Creek -  A week of eco-friendly activities and events to celebrate our planet

April 26: Food Truck Friday is another popular event that will be happening this month at the Evans Towne Center Park. The event will take place 6 pm - 9 pm.

April 27: Senior Center Zoo Trip -Senior citizens will be having some fun with the animals. For $50 seniors are transported and given a ticket for the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden located in Columbia, SC.

9 Fun Spring Family Activities To Do In Georgia

In the South, we only have so much time to enjoy perfect weather. By perfect I mean 70 to 80 degrees and sunny. Spring seems to always hit at the beginning of March, and by early May the humidity hits and we're really in for it through the end of October. While the weather temps are amazing, enjoy it with your family and friends. Below are some fun spring family activities to do in Georgia.

Picnic in the park

Riverfront picnic tables

Pack a basket with your favorite snacks and head to your favorite park for a picnic. Bring a blanket and some games to play! Check out these Augusta parks.

Hiking

Spring is a great time to go for a hike and explore the outdoors. We should probably all do it more often.  You'll feel adventurous on any of these trails around Augusta, just make sure they are suitable for your family's skill level.

Plant a garden

Gardening in Augusta - Young female gardener holding wooden crate full of flowers ready to be planted in a garden. Gardening hobby concept.

Plant a garden and grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers. My wife and I have been getting our hands dirty in ours for the last month.  We even added a stone path in our backyard!  Dig into these gardening tips.

Bike ride

I love a fun bike trail and your family will too.  Check out the trails around Augusta here!  If you don't have a bike, no worries.  You can rent bikes here.

Go fishing

woman fishing

That's great if you have a family boat!  If not, bring some chairs, and snacks, and cast your line at any of these spots!

Visit a farmer's market

Farmers Market

We're up early on Saturdays anyway so we can do yard work.  I like going to a farmer's market early also and my favorite is the one downtown.  Head down to the Saturday Market in Augusta and shop local!

Play a round of golf

Golfer Golfing

If you're a big golf family then this is a no-brainer.  The earlier you get out there, the more time you'll have to enjoy the rest of the day when you finish your round!  Golf at any one of these awesome courses in the CSRA!

scavenger hunt

Get the kids off of their screens and have a scavenger hunt at the park or nature trail. We have plenty of those around here!

Fly a kite

Again, put the screens away for a little bit and literally fly a kite.  I recommend a family beach trip for this adventure.

Before the really hot temperatures hit, explore the outdoors with your family with these fun spring family activities!
