Hundreds of Ducks Will Be Released into the Augusta Canal This Weekend For a Good Cause
This weekend you may see a duck or two, or hundreds, floating down the Augusta Canal. Taking place for the first time is the Augusta Duck Dash. The purpose of the Augusta Duck Dash is to benefit the Family Y’s A Place to Dream Program.
The event will take place this weekend, October 21, at the Savannah Rapids Park at the Mill House from 10am-1pm.
First, the event will kick off with a free family fall festival. There will be bounce houses, food trucks, face paintings, and games. Don’t forget to come in your best Halloween costume, because there will also be a costume contest, along with a trunk or treat portion for the kids.
Another contest that will be going on is the Jeep Contest. If you are a Jeep owner or even just a Jeep lover you’ve probably heard the term “You’ve been ducked!” It’s a sort of inside thing amongst Jeep Wrangler owners to leave rubber duckies on other Jeeps to surprise the owner. How Cool!
If you drive a Jeep, you are eligible to sign up for the contest to win some cool prizes while also raising money for a good cause.
How to be Apart of the Augusta Duck Dash?
You can purchase a duck and sign up for other events here. All online sales will end at 1pm on Friday, October 20.
At the event, hundreds of rubber ducks will be released into the Augusta Canal, as they race for various prizes.
A Place to Dream Program is an initiative to ensure that children are equipped with the proper bedding. There are many agencies out there that help families find a house to live in, but what about the next step? Many families get into these houses and sleep on the floor, air mattresses, or other makeshift beds. Or if there is a bed, it may be only one for a large family to all pile up in.
The goal is to help save local infants from SIDS and make sure children have a safe place to sleep at night.
